Mary Heneghan Cardoen

Born in Castlebar, Mary lives in Belgium but returns regularly to the Wild Atlantic Way.She was educated in Trinity College Dublin and the Sorbonne University Paris. Her poems come from her life and professional experience and humanitarian volunteering.

She has been shortlisted for the Irish Times Hennessy New Irish Writing award, and long listed for Galway, Ireland’s Over The Edge new writer’s prize. She is a member of the Brussels Writer’s Circle and the online poetry group Poets Abroad.

Mary thinks of poetry as an amplifier of human experience, a way to listen to the drumbeat of the world and what it is to be alive. She believes poetry brings passion and clarity to the act of living, and that it connects us to history, to others and to ourselves.
